R messes up other vowels... there's probably a word for it. ?? They are technically different, but I think when there is an R after the long A like in care, it comes out sounding pretty much like the vowel in bet. If you say bare and bear the same - that's what I mean. Also consider the surname Behr, which presumably has the same vowel as bet in it, but sounds just like bear.- mirfak
