I usually like unusual flower names, but this one just sounds like a spitting noise from a 1930s cartoon. “Ptoo!”

It’s got a silly vibe.

I'm not a fan of plant names in general, though some are better than others. Petunia is close to the bottom of the list, especially since my first association is with Harry Potter's awful aunt.

If we’re pronouncing it like puh-TUNE-ee-ah, then sure, I find it to be a little pretty. But puh-TUNE-yah isn’t ugly, I just find it to be the same as Gertrude - very frumpy and unpleasant. Not a fan.

I love Chloë’s idea for Petunia Maxine and Petunia Chantal.

I'll admit that I wasn't really into Petunia, until I learned that it means "tobacco". That gave it a whole new dimension for me. So now it interests me a lot! I think the nickname "Tunie" would be very cute (although it might be extra strange in Canada, because we call our two dollar coins "toonies").
