It flew up to a peak and then fell almost as fast. The Looking Glass song "Brandy, You're a Fine Girl" is pretty much totally responsible for it being popular as a name.
I don't hate it, but it pretty quickly turned low-rent, stereotypical bimbo name.

I like it. I can see why people don't like it, well enough that I'm not crazy about it.
And I might not like it, if I had never met nice gals who were named Brandy.
The impression I get is smack in-between Misty and Brooke.

I've never seen it used IRL, except when referencing an American person. I live in a wine-making district and brandy is also produced: cheaper than whiskey, so more popular. Perhaps it's a matter of associations? I wouldn't think if using it as a human name; perhaps on a brown dog it might work. I've never encountered a Sherry either, though there are plenty of Cheryl people of retirement age.

Brandy was one of the more common names in my generation. It had started to drop off in popularity, but I don't live in a very fashionable area, so we always seem a bit behind the trends. So Brandy is quite familiar to me, along the same lines as Shari, Chelsea, Amber, Crystal, Candace, stuff like that. I guess it must be a mom name now.

I was never super fond of it, but I wouldn't be that surprised if Brandy had a bit of a resurgence. It has a warm, messily authentic sort of retro charm to it. Very 80s. If Brenda is becoming more appealing, then Brandy probably isn't far behind.

I find Brandy very juvenile in sound. I often wonder if a woman with this name is taken seriously in real life. Naming a child after a drink isn't advisable (except maybe Jack and Tom but the drinks aren't the first things I think about when I hear these names). Cocktail names like Tequila & Daiquiri and wine names like Chardonnay, Chablis, Merlot, Sherry & Madeira may sound ok but I still wouldn't use any of them on a child.

I don't mind it. That spelling is better than Brandi, in my opinion.
