Help[Opinions] Names for Rats?
I have two stories where names for rats are needed, they are:
- One where a guy owns about 3-4 pet rats
- Another where a teen girl has a stuffed animal rat
I've been thinking of naming a few rats after other rats from pop culture (ex: Socrates, Ben, Virgil), but am unsure of other possible names. I also think the teen girl would name her rat something silly so i think some of the name options wouldn't fit. So any name that has 'rat vibes' to it would be nice.

zh and sh give rat vibes. Don't ask me why. Or really dusty, fussy names. I can totally see a rat called Cheryl. Or Leola. Also names of historical figures. Like Pliny. I can so see a rat called Pliny. Alberta is definitely a rat name. And Temperance. Virtue names in general. Anything starchy. Like Ferdinand. Which also fits the historical bill. Ooh Herbert. Such a rat name. Ernestine is DEFINITELY a rat name. As is Muriel.
I always thought Templeton was the perfect name for a rat (from Charlotte’s Web).
My favorite naming scheme for multiples is to go for very ostentatious, over-the-top names for the first few, and the last pet just has the most mundane name ever. Their introduction to strangers would go something like this: "This here is Ignatius. Next we've got Ebenezer, Alphonsus...and this is Steve."
But if that's not the style you're going for and you're looking for more pop-culture or silly, I would think that Houdini, Magellan, Peepers, Da Vinci, all three of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's names, Beethoven, Papageno/Papagena (from The Magic Flute), and Pfeiffer can sound pretty endearing.
Plus I kind of love the idea of giving female rats very classy, refined lady names as a way to offset their 'dirty vermin' reputation: Geraldine, Caldonia, Henriette/Henrietta, Cordelia, Bernadette, Eugenia, Priscilla, Harriet, Alberta, etc.
(Alberta would be an interesting choice given that Alberta, Canada is one of the few places on Earth where rats have essentially been eradicated and have no sustained populations)

I love rats! My rats had names from 80s music.
You could use names from famous people born in the year of the rat as theme: Bonham, Lloyd, Osbourne, Linford, The Bard etc.
Ballet has some great names too: Odette, Bacchus & Ariadne, Don Juan, Medea, Raymonda

The teen’s rat: Rizzo (from the muppet show), Julius Cheeser, Ratbert, McCheesy, Rascal, Baldwin for a hairless rat

I love rats! I had three a few years ago named Melba, Nadine, and Jeanette.
