[Opinions] Confirmation Names 2024
Confirmations have been announced in my church's bulletin! A lot of kids picked Sebastian this year. It was nice to see someone used Joan for their name (my confirmation name is Joan). The Brandy one has a question mark because the supposed confirmation name wasn't italicized like the others.Cooper (Philip)

Where did Sebastian come from? And another Dymphna. I love Raphael, Jerome (cool saint as well), Clare (my daughter chose Agnes, sister to Clare), and Toribio.I like Hildegarde.

I like Cecilia, Helena, Raphael, Maximilian and Agnes the most from the confirmation names, and I find Toribio, Augustine, Amalberga, Valentine, Pio and Dymphna the most interesting. I like Cameron, Maximilian, Riley, Elijah, Ella, Colette, Josephine, Noah, Vincent, Eloise, Luz, Tyler, Delaney and Theresa best from the given names (I hope that’s the right terminology).
It’s interesting that Vincent chose Vincent and Theresa chose Therese! Do you know if there’s any reason for this?

Maybe some kids went with their own names since they coincided with saints. One of my younger cousins almost chose his own name before settling on Francis.

That is SO many kids, my gosh?! Is it some kind of Catholic Megachurch? Man, if they had told me I could pick a confirmation name, the church probably coulda kept me interested. I left right before all that stuff because they were so weirdly neglectful. I never even knew about confirmation! Sometimes I wonder which saint I would have chosen if I had known I could....ANYWAY I digressI love that Carlo is a saint name, it's so jazzy. Sebastian has some pretty great romantic imagery so I wonder if that's why he's so popular? I'd love to know.So exciting that Vittorio picked Amalberga! What a champ. And so nice to see my wacky Dymphna getting some love! Toribio is so fun. Thanks for sharing these!

My church is a regular old Catholic church. Though it's surprising that you didn't learn about confirmation; all the kids at my church are granted confirmation when they reach eighth grade.

I think my church was an odd one. Maybe they were hanging on by a thread - my first communion group was about 10 kids strong, if that. I don't remember hearing anything about saints and what they were for, or who they were.

I wish my church waited until then. They combine 1st communion and confirmation together in 3rd grade. We tried to separate the two and couldn't. It's just our diocese, too.

Toribio!! That's cool.Is Vittorio a typo or did a boy choose Amalberga? If he did - yay!!Same with Cate and Vitus.

Two Hildegards, woohoo!I love the boy who chose Amalberga.

Isabella Elizabeth and Ella Elizabeth could be better. As could Jack Carlo and Theresa Therese.

Amalberga and Toribio are the ones that stand out to me.

I'm curious, are you given a list of names to choose from or can you just choose anything?

You're supposed to pick a name of someone you consider a role model in your faith. Traditionally, it's a saint's name, but picking a name from the Bible or a name of a trusted/admired person in.your life might be okay nowadays, too...although Buddha or Muhammad probably wouldn't fly.

It depends on the diocese. My daughter had to write a report on her confirmation name. I suppose it's easy enough to find a name you like and find a saint with it, thoughThe report had to include a biography of the saint and why my daughter chose it.

I know someone whose confirmation name is Noelle since she liked the name then. They really don't care what name is chosen.

Noel is a saint's name. But yeah, I think no one would really inquire unless it's obviously not a Christian name.
