At some time in the past, the prefix Mc was added to the surname Bennett to produce the surname McBennett in County Monaghan, Ireland. Does anyone know when this occurred and whether the new surname was created in Ireland or whether it was created outside Ireland and then folks with that surname moved into Ireland?
