[Opinions] Ellen
I’ve always wondered why I didn’t really like the name Ellen. I adore Helen(actually my favorite name), love Helena, and really like Eleanor and Elena. Basically I like every name similar to Ellen but not Ellen. What do you think of Ellen? I don't hate it, but I definitely don't like it.

I’ve always liked Ellen. It’s not in my top 10 or even my top 20 but it’s a nice name.
I have always enjoyed the name Ellen; I think that it sounds classy, natural, and I love the 5-lettered length. If I didn't have a bad associate, I'd actually consider naming a daughter as Ellen. I do prefer the name Eleanor to Ellen, and I love Helen to pieces...but I definitely also enjoy the name Ellen!
You would think it would be more popular going by the sound alone. It begins with "EL" seen in Eliana, Eleanor, Ella, etc., and the "LEN" ending seen in Madelyn, Evelyn, etc. Ellen was in the top 200 for 116 years until it slid down the list beginning in 1997.
My name is Ellen Elizabeth. I like my name - it's recognizable, easy to spell, uncomplicated, and I've only run into a handful.
It’s also still popular in the UK, and usually US names pick up on that.
I far prefer Helen, which I would use, and Eleanor, which I would consider. Ellen, to me, is a 19th-century housemaid who is always making more messes than she ever clears up.
I think Ellen is miles better than Helen, but nowhere near as good as Elena or Helena.
I actually feel the same. I used to like Ellen, but it has lost its spark, I now see it crude, boring, empty. Helen is alright, my favourite is Helena, and I like Elena and Eleanor.
I admire its poise and staid charm.
I'm pretty much the opposite of you! While Ellen isn't in my favorites, I wouldn't hesitate to use it on a pet, character, middle name, etc. I enjoy it. Partially due to personal bias, I'm sure, but I'm also inclined to think I'd still like it even if not. However, I'm unfortunately not a fan of Helen, Helena, Eleanor, or Elena.
I love Ellen. A few months ago I posted about a dream I had with twin daughters Rachel and Ellen.
It's ok
I think it's very pretty and maybe due for a comeback. Unfortunately, it's associated with the comedian, Ellen.
