Africa is seriously large, with many languages in daily use. What exactly do you have in mind? Something from (former) Francophone Africa? Or doesn't it matter?

Anywhere as the charaters great great grandparents were colonised and displaced, so it was hard for the to determine which part, most likely Nigeria and surrounding countrys. Sorry for not being clearer xx
