The fact that's it's popular proves it's not unusable. But just because you don't know anyone with that name, that doesn't mean your child might not end up being one of the Sofias in het class or often meet other with that name. When a name gets more popular it loses a bit of personality and becomes a bit more bland. To me named like Sophie, Anna and Emma aren't pretty and classic anymore, but bland and run on the mill. The one thing it has got going for itself is that it probably won't be regarded as 'dated' at some point, because it's so universally popular. Depending on where you live you'd also need to specify that it's spelled with an F not PH, which would also put me off a bit.
Others will disagree though, otherwise they wouldn't keep being popular.
I personally would do my very best to try and find another name I liked as much and only use it if I had gone through every female name on this site and was 100% sure this was really the only name I truly loved.
