[Opinions] Jace?
Heard this name recently and kind of like it. Could be a nickname for Jason or Jacob, but could stand alone. It reached a dramatic peak of popularity in the mid 2010s. Maps show it is most popular in Utah and Idaho, so maybe it has something to do with Mormonism? I'm not Mormon and no nothing about the religion, so I can't say if that is true or not. What are your views on it?

It's a nice name, a little unconventional, has that youthful vibe to it, but it's very much usable and very much easy to remember. I like it both as a nickname to Jason, my brother's name, and on it's own. It works well both ways. 🙂
I had a classmate named Jace when I was in 3rd grade in the mid-90's. It was certainly a novelty and not a widespread name at the time, he's still the only Jace I've ever met to this day. I always assumed that since Jason exploded during the decades before, then perhaps Jace was a little twist on it to offset the tide.
I'm not aware of any Mormonism ties.
It's fine. I've encountered it as a given name - a little bland, more syllable than name to my ears - but I don't hate it.

I don't think it has anything directly to do with Mormonism, it's just that a lot of Mormon's seem to gravitate towards trendy names and making up their own names because they don't like to have kids with the same names as other kids they know.
A woman from the American TV show Teen Mom named her son Jace around that time too, which I always figured somewhat helped it's popularity use.
I actually like Jace. My cousin named her second son Jace. I don't mind the spelling of Jayce either, honestly.

I'd always assumed that it was based on the initials J and C - Joseph Charles, for instance.
I know two little boys with this name, neither of them are Mormon. It's a trendy name, but I actually really like it!
Jace went through some popularity with Cassandra Clare's The Mortal Instruments series, where he was the main love interest. I remember reading that book when it was still Harry Potter fanfiction lol
Anyway, I'm not a fan of it as a full name but it's fine as a nn.
I think fantasy books are big among Mormons. Or at least there's a surprising amount of Mormon fantasy writers: https://youtu.be/tTQLxR2ggUg?si=mMnY-bMHehDEbwlU (a video by Alyssa Grenfell talking about Mormon fantasy authors. She's a former Mormon who speaks a lot of Mormon culture in a really engaging way. I'm not Mormon but caught her review of Heretic and got sucked into her videos, which are all fascinating.)

Interesting. I assumed it was a name in the book of Mormon.
