[Opinions] WDYT of Bailey?
What do you think of the name Bailey? Do you prefer it on a boy or a girl? What middle names go well with it? Any alternate spellings?
Thanks

I prefer it for a boy. I would only use it for a pet. It's become too popular for girls.
I don't generally care for surnames as first names -- especially when there is no familial connection. The thing about surnames (occupational surnames in particular) is that often the meanings are odd for first names (Cooper, Tanner, Taylor, Tyler, Parker, Carter, etc.). Bailey means 'bailiff.' Again, imo, kind of odd as a first name. Obviously, I'm in the minority here (maybe not on this site but in general). Many people love these names. I don't see the trend ending anytime soon.
I like Bailey for both.

It reminds me of the character in 'The Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants', and so because of that I always think of it on a tomboyish girl, but it could work for either sex. I personally wouldn't use it myself though.

I happen to like the name Bailey, but only in that spelling and for a boy. It is not my style for a girl.
I LOVE Bailey
I prefer for a boy more than a girl, but it has been growing on me on a girl.
I like the original spelling ONLY.

I have a very good friend named Bailey, so I like it, but I wouldn't ever use it. It isn't really my style.
I like it for a dog.

I don't care for it. I have known a lot of dogs named Bailey (I worked in veterinary services), and it suits them quite well, male or female. But on people, I think of it as a surname only. It's one surname name I think I will probably never warm up to.. it's just too canine to me.
I think it's okay on a guy, because surname names are more acceptable on men, to me. But if I may be totally honest, I can't find anything to like about it as a name for a woman.

Well, uh, I can't say I like it at all for a person of either gender. It's my female dog's name, though.
I don't care for it at all, boy or girl. It's very childish, wouldn't age well, and has a whiny quality to the sound that turns me off.
I can tolerate it on a boy but I hate it on a girl. Not a big fan either way, though.

I don't like the name at all. I think of Beetle Bailey when I hear it. It should stay a surname, but of course, with the way names are going, it won't. *sigh*

Its a bit too surnamey proffessiony for me but I prefer it on a boy
I LOVE IT!
I LOVE it!! Who cares if it means "bailiff"...it could be MUCH worse!! Not to mention that many people (save for most of the ones on this site, from what I can tell) don't even know what their name means!
I'd use it as a girl's name, although I don't mind it for a boy either. To me it's a 'friendly' kind of name...like Daisy or Amy for a girl, or like Riley or Cody for a boy (just examples).
I prefer to spell it Bailey, even though it's the most common (at least where I come from). Other spellings? There are many possibilities: Bayley, Bailie, Baylee, Baly, Baely, Bayleigh, Bayli, etc. Why is it that it's typically girls names that have so many more spellings and variants?
Most importantly, what do YOU think of the name Bailey?!

I don't like it at all, I find it immature sounding, but prefer it on a boy if it is used.

It means "bailiff" and is best as a surname
But for some reason I think a bailiff sounds more male than female.
But I also associate Bailey with alcohol, so I don't think it is suitable as fn for either sex. I can't understand why parents want to name their daughters Brandy either. Maybe it is b/c I'm not American but I don't find these names classy.
Bethany otoh is a good name, a name with history.

Don't like it that much. It's too much of a surname to me, and it makes me think of Bailey's Irish Cream. If I had to use it as a first name, though, I'd *much* prefer it on a boy because it doesn't seem feminine at all.
