[Opinions] Thoughts on Penelope?
Just thought of it yesterday and curious what you thought.

It rolls off the tongue nicely. Even if you're not going to use it for the meaning or mythological context its just a really nice sounding name! I think I first heard it in the Hamtaro anime back in the 2000s. I was in elementary school at the time. Unfortunately it's also the name of an absolutely insufferable regular customer at my job. Overall really cute otherwise.
Meh, it's fine.
It's always struck me as a bit ludicrous as a name for a human, but a perfect name for an animal.
I think I feel this way because I think I first encountered it as the name of a cow in a children's book when I was maybe seven. I think that just left a long-standing impression, for better or worse.
Penny as a name has also always struck me as ludicrous, but I think, again, when I was little I was a coin collector and could not conceive of Penny as anything other than a copper coin of limited utility.

I feel pretty neutral towards it, neither love it nor hate it. It's not a name I would use, at least not in reality, but I can understand why a lot of people would.
A cousin of mine has a little girl named this who goes by Nelly/Nellie. (Idk which spelling)
She has a brother named Jasper. I think that's a really solid sibling combo, Penelope & Jasper.
I predicted Penelope to enter the top 20 in the past, but now it looks like the name might be moving away.

My grandfather suggested it to my parents before I was born. The funny part was he said the “lope” part like the ending of cantaloupe. I think it’s a really pretty name.
I love it. I had a cat named Penelope.
I've always liked Penelope, and I'm OK with Penny as a nn. In the Mary O'Hara books, My Friend Flicka and its sequels, the mother is always called Nel, and when she finally has the daughter she's always wanted, the baby is named Penelope! Which actually makes better sense, thinking of the sound of the name rather than its appearance.
It's a nice name, but I'm honestly amazed by its popularity. It doesn't seem like the sort of name that would go mainstream. It was definitely seen as a kooky, laughably old fashioned name when I was growing up, on par with Hildegard and Minerva. I wonder if most people chose it as a way to use Penny.
Completely agree! Despite being an enthusiast of the classics and of ancient names, I have trouble appreciating Penelope because I'm flummoxed and disturbed by how popular it is. It's kind of eerie...
I'm very sorry, but it might be one of my least favorite names.
I'm really surprised it's at #28.

Same, I hate it and was shocked at its popularity. It just doesn’t really sound like a human name to me.
Sounds nice!
So far as I know, there was never a Muppet named Penelope, but the name has always sounded like a Muppet's name to me. It's just goofy-sounding.
I've never been a big fan of Penelope. Plus, Pene is a male body part in Spanish. That makes the name seem vulgar to me.
Funny enough this is the reason you can't name your pokemon Penelope in any pokemon game past generation 5. You also can't name pokemon Violet because the anti-swearing coding picks up another word in French. (Which is ironic since the current gen games are called *Scarlet and Violet*.) This phenomenon is called the Scunthorp Problem, and it's a really fascinating thing to see happen.
