The relationship between Ada and Leo (or, as her little brothers persist in calling him, Leo-Knight-Us) has suffered ups and downs. Leo loves his daughter, but is a detached and old-fashioned father, providing for her financially while Ada is left with the hands-on parenting. Their relationship is plagued by frequent arguments followed by apologies, and is held together largely by Ada’s fear of supporting herself and a child alone. They have been reunited by the news of a second baby on the way, a son this time.

The big news in the family is the engagement of Jules to a woman he met two years ago, whilst working on a site directly across the street from her family’s pharmacy. It was love at first sight and both families had been introduced to their potential new member within two weeks of their first conversation. Sophia finds her future daughter-in-law quiet and lacking in personality, though Thomas rightfully points out that no-one might be good enough for her babies, and nobody can deny the girl is pleasant.

Luca has left school and is gaining work experience in retail, something which he absolutely despises. Taking orders is not his strong suit and he would much prefer to be in his manager’s position. Marcel is fascinated by cars, able to name makes and models at a glance, and has discovered a love of water sports since a recent school trip. Oscar is also athletic, taking up running like his parents, though he mostly enjoys the chance to escape into the woods. Finally, Bea remains the artist of the family, her enjoyment of dance thankfully tempered and replaced with painting.
