[Surname] Loyacano?
Does anyone know the meaning of the surname Loyacano? It's original form was Loicano, and it's of Italian origin.

Difficult to say. The regional origin is not certain in Italy. According to the Mormon's site (www.familysearch.org) this surname was sicilian, coming from the area of Palermo. But the name of the municipality PIANE DEI GRECI, the original place of this surname, doesn't exist now in Sicily.

Piana degli Greci 1488 is now called Piana degli Albanesi.

Everything that you say fits! I am into geneology, and my Loyacano ancestors come from Palermo, and 1 even comes from Piano de Greci. Thank you for responding.
