[Opinions] Joplin?
Is it a real name for people? Just curious. I think I heard it as a name somewhere.

Yes, it has been given to more than 330 girls in the US since 2000.
Also probably used very infrequently for boys and girls before that.
Since it's an opinions board, I'll say my opinion - I think it's okay, but I don't like how it reminds me of jape and jalopy. The entry for the surname on BtN even suggests it might have come from a nickname meaning "fool." So I'm with New Chloe, there's something too jocular about it for my taste.

Not a fan. Better as a surname.
Did you hear it as a surname for Janis Joplin? Or perhaps Scott Joplin? Or perhaps a Missouri city that got destroyed ~12/13 years ago?
Big ol' nope from me.
Big ol' nope from me.
They're really good musicians though.
I think it would be a good name for a cat.

It could be. I think of Janis and Missouri. Not a fan of the name itself really.

I think of Janis Joplin and would assume that's who the name is referencing. I wouldn't be surprised to see it in this era of star-surnames being used as first names. I'm not a fan of this one though. It seems kind of silly, I think the Jop-beginning is clownish to me.
The Joplin tornado comes to mind for me. Not a fan, I don't think it has a nice sound!
Janis Joplin comes to mind. I like it for a first name too.
I haven't heard of it used as a first name. I would assume it comes from Scott Joplin, the legendary ragtime pianist.
From what I can tell, there isn't any name that someone somewhere hasn't used. However, Joplin doesn't seem to have been used enough to make an impact. It would fit in with people who use Jagger and Hendrix and Lennon, but it just hasn't gotten much use. It's also a place name so would fit in with Cheyenne and Dakota and Aspen. But it hasn't caught on there either.
Just the luck of the draw.
