[Opinions] Valentina & Valentine
I've recently began to really like the names Valentina and Valentine. WDYT? I really love them both - Valentina for a girl, and Valentine for either gender (though for some reason I prefer it as a FN for a boy, but as a MN for a girl). Any FN or MN suggestions?

I love the name Valentina. It's beautiful. For a boy, I don't really think using Valentine is a good idea - too Valentine's Day, and can also be feminine, so both of these together make it a particularly teasable name. I still like it though. And I like it better for a boy than a girl. I really like Valentin, though. It's definitely not feminine (and neither is Valentino, but I don't like that).I like the nickname Val for all the names. And maybe Tina for Valentina. Because it's really too long for everyday use. And it's long enough without a middle name, too, so if there is one it should be short (no Valentina Evangeline Alexandra). Something like Valentina Rose, maybe. Though that's too frilly and pink.

Aw, my favorite aunt's mn is Valentine. She was born on February 13th. :-/ She's Joan Valentine. But I have to agree with you on prefering Valentine to remain male. St. Valentine was a man. The only time I've seen it used is in a book, one of the characters in the Poldark series. Valentine's sister was named Ursula. How cool is that? Valentine and Ursula. But I wouldn't use Valentine as a male first name today. At least, not here in the U.S. It would still make a nice mn, though, with a recognizably masculine fn:John Valentine
Pearce / Piers Valentine
Jude Valentine
Noel Valentine
Nicholas Valentine
Stephen Valentine
Hugh Valentine
Felix ValentineValentina is an off-beat treasure for a girl:Valentina Sophie
Valentina Alix (old French / German form of Alice)
Valentina Rosalind
Valentina Pearl
Valentina Clemence

Thanks. I honestly love all the Valentine combos. They all very elegant and appealing. My favourites are John Valentine, Felix Valentine, and Noel Valentine.Out of the girl combos, I like Valentina Celeste, Valentina Colette, Valentina Petra the best (though I like it better swicthed around, as Petra Valentina. Beautiful combo).

I'm the opposite - for some reason I think of Valentina as more masculine than Valentine. But then I prefer both names on a boy.. I wouldn't use either as a FN now because the name is too much connected with Valentine's Day in my mind. As a middle name for a boy or girl they are both cute though. I have a friend who named her baby girl Anna Valentine, she was born in February.
