I've got some questions about Jessie (for a girl)... thanks in advance!
1. Is Jessie masculine or feminine to you? Do you think it would confuse people?
2. Does Jessie sound insubstantial as a first name? Is it better as a nickname?

1. Feminine. I don't know any male who goes by the name Jessie. I see Jesse being the masculine version of the same pronouncation.
2. I personally think it's a NN only. It's too cutesy and short to be a full name.
3. I like it, but as a NN for Jessica or Jessamine only, as I already said. It's cute and spunky.

Jessie is a girl name, a nickname for Jessica. Jesse is a boy name. I like it much better as a nn, for a girl, but if you don't like Jessica (or any other names beginning with Jess, like Jessenia or Jessamine or something) than it would be better as a full name. It's a lot more substantial than some other nns. It's fine to me, and I love Jesse for a boy.

- It can be either, it all depends on the spelling to me. Jessie for a girl, Jesse for a guy.

- I think it can work just fine as a first name. It doesn't have to just be a nn.

1. If I heard Jessie or Jesse, I wouldn't think one sex over the other if the person wasn't standing in front of me. If I read either Jessie or Jesse, I'd think female and male, respectively.
2. I find Jessie a bit nicknamey as a fn. While I like the sound of Jessie, I really don't care for Jessica. I find names such as Jessenia or Jessamine more attractive and interesting.

Jessie is feminine to me (Jesse masculine). It might only confuse people when people talk about Jessie, because the difference between Jassie and Jesse can't be heard, I don't htink it'll be a major problem though.
I would like it as a fn, I don't like it when people give their child a name, just because they want a certain nn. Over here (the Netherlands) it's custom that you give your child the name you'll end up calling him/her, not a different fn with nn, but the nn as full fn.
I like Jessie, it used to be one of my favs for a girl (exactly like this not as a nn). Now it is replaced by others, but I still like it.

My husband's name is Jesse so I have lots of experience with it! With that said:
1. The name sounds feminine to me. Jessica is SUCH a popular name and most Jessica's go by Jessie too.
2. Yes. I don't like it as a nickname either.
3. I love my husband but I've never liked his name. Not much of a meaning and it seems like a nickname too.

Well I have a cousin (female) named Jessica and everyone calls her Jessie, I think it can go both ways with me, but I actually prefer Jesse for a boy and Jessa or Jeska for a girl.
