What are your opinions on the name Ella?
I've heard a lot of people say it's overused and childish, but I've never actually met anyone named Ella (adult or child), and I think it's a nice, feminine name.

My husband and I were thinking of naming our daughter Ella Yunji Kim, and I was just curious about what everyone thought.

I am not one for older names and I think this falls under that catagory.

It's not overused where I live. I've only met one little girl with that name.

I agree with most here...I haven't met that many Ella's but if you look at trends and popular lists, it's up there...especially across the "pond" (I am referring to the British Isles). I think your daughter will definitely run into some more Ella's her own age. I like the name a lot, but wouldn't pick it now because it seems too hot/trendy. But Ella Kim sounds nice. What about Elyse (pron. "Eh-lease")?

I like Ella too, I've never met an Ella, I think its a really pretty name. ;)

I really like Ella alone or as a nick for Eleanor, Ellen, etc. My great-aunt was Ella May and my mother and I were named after her in a fashion (Ellen, Elena).

I certainly don't think Ella is childish, however, it is overused and I'd never use it now.

I think Ella Kim has a nice flow to it.

I like Ella NN Ellie. But I have to say I like Elsie NN Ellie more. Ella is not childish, and it's not popular.. Unless you count book characters.

Very nice, its becoming more and more popular but in my area (suburb of Vancouver, Canada) its still not as common as names like Ashley, Jessica, or Madison. Even so, popularity is mattering less and less to me the closer I get to having children. Having said that, I love the even more popular Isabella / Izabella and the nn Bella so Ella is very appealing to me.

Well... My opinion is one of those who thinks it's childish. I don't think it's overused, and it's very pretty and feminine- for a child under the age of ten. Over that, it seems out of place. I just don't think it ages well.
