I like this name, but is it ok to use as a first name?

I LOVE Ginny but I really dislike the other options for a full fn too. I would just use Ginny but it DOES sound like it is missing somehting. Maybe if you made it hyphenated like Ginny-_____

Ginny's a cute nn, that oddly enough doesn't go into the dreaded "cutesy" category imo.But I definitely see it as only a nn, sorry. It's too insubstantial for me as a full name.Besides, full names usually offer the kid more choices should she/he not like her/his "designated" nn.

I love Ginny! I'd rather it as a nn for Virginia, Ginevra, Gina, Georgina, Ginger, Regina, etc :)Edit- Oh, I wish I could spell :)

I've always liked Ginny -- years before I'd even heard of Harry Potter.I grew up with a Ginny, short for Virginia. I thought it would have been a nice nn for Ginevra (ji-NEH-vra) as well.

Would it be ok as a first name?

Of course it would b terrific as a fn - as long as it's a nn for something. I'd want the option of a more formal name if I were her and entering the work force/professional world. She doesn't have to use it, but it's nice that it's there just in case.

It's adorable, and I love it, but only as a nickname.-- Sarah

I know a girl called Virginia who always goes by Ginny as she hates Virginia! I think it is a lovely name, but people would associate it with Harry Potter on a baby born today. It would be fine when that has died down a bit, though.
