[Opinions] Hawkeye.
I've been considering letting this break free of the middle name spot (James Hawkeye) and thinking about it as a first name--namely, because James is boring me half out of my skull at the moment, much as I loved my grandfather by that name. :/What do you think of it as a first name--is it too much? Should I stick with it as a middle name, or as an unofficial nickname (ala Captain Benjamin Franklin "Hawkeye" Pierce, without whom, I'd have little interest in the name--I'm not a huge Cooper fan, you see ;)? And what would pair well with it as a middle name?I've thought of Hawkeye Matthias (H. Matthias Surname looks more than respectable, if he feels the need to be respectable, I figure), but I'd love it if any of you had some ideas. Thanks! :DArray

...And then he said, "You're independent, aren't you?"

I'll take a stab at some suggestions, even though I know your taste is a little...hm, um...well, different than mine. :o) Oh, and FYI, to me, Hawkeye is a Gregory - I love it on someone else's kid. ;o) I don't have the panache or the moxie or the whatever-the-heck it is that I need to pull it off, myself. ;o)Hawkeye Abiram
Hawkeye Adoniram
Hawkeye Ambrogio
Hawkeye Baxter (I've loved Baxter for years, but never had an excuse to pull it out before)
Hawkeye Beryl
Hawkeye Charlatan (hey, why not?)
Hawkeye Credence
Hawkeye Dashiell
Hawkeye Darnell
Hawkeye Dempsey (ditto w/Baxter)
Hawkeye Foster
Hawkeye Gallant
Hawkeye Gawain
Hawkeye Harvey (I'm getting to like alliteration a bit more lately)
Hawkeye Heron
Hawkeye Jasper
Hawkeye Journey
Hawkeye Legend
Hawkeye Lindley
Hawkeye Loyal (I just love this one!)
Hawkeye Loring (this, too)
Hawkeye Marshall
Hawkeye Peregrine (maybe redundant?)
Hawkeye Rayner (or Raining or Rainier)
Hawkeye Rogue (love this, also)
Hawkeye Sojourner
Hawkeye Sterling
Hawkeye Tait
Hawkeye Tane
Hawkeye Tremaine (2 literary characters in one combo!)
Hawkeye Vernon
Hawkeye Weylin
Hawkeye Zebedee
Hawkeye ZebulonWell, there you are...are any of them your cup of tea? :o)

I really like Hawkeye and I would actually like to see it on a kid, however, the kid may not feel the same way, haha.Hawkeye Matthias or Matthias Hawkeye is great! I really like it! (As well as Matthias Crow).Hawkeye Pierce was my favorite character on M*A*S*H as well, haha : )No suggestions come to mind at the moment, but if I come up with something I'll let you know : )

Hawkeye Matthias sounds fantasticI love it and wouldn't change it. But if you are looking for suggestions, how do these grab you:Hawkeye Dashing -- Hey, why not?)Hawkeye Dominic -- Instead of repeating the long I, repeat the "aw" soundHawkeye Redmond -- You get Redhawk out of it! How cool is that, really?Hawkeye Ridge -- I'm on a roll hereHawkeye Scirocco -- Who else could suggest that? Honestly. And repeats the "aw" againHawkeye Scott -- I just like how this sounds; very sharpHawkeye Scout -- I like how this sounds even more; all the snap and charm of Scott, plus meaning - and nothing is too over-the-top for me, and you have those tendencies, you and I both know it!Hawkeye Tiberius -- It's got that long I thing again
Other long I names, I didn't think would sound as nice. I wouldn't put 2 vowels back to back, as in Hawkeye Elijah or Hawkeye Isaiah, but perhaps you would. :-)~Lillian~

my assumption that neither Hawkeye Cooper nor Hawkeye Fenimore is on your list *LOL*You're quite right on that count--I'm afraid that the Leatherstocking Tales haven't inspired me as much as they did Hawkeye Pierce's dad. ;) But Mr. Pierce himself...what an absolutely brilliant character. He just wins, honestly.Hawkeye Matthias does sound great to me--and it even almost works as a possible-use name, because Matthias is "family" the same way Solveig is. While it hasn't been used in my family tree, as far as I know, it's one that could very well have been chosen by my ancestors. And besides that, I would've been a Matthew if I was a dude, so it's kind of like naming a kid after me. ;)Hawkeye Dashing~ I don't say "too wordy" much, but I suppose I'm just not into verby words as much (with the exception of Raining). I know Dashing here is meant to be a virtue, but I can only picture Alan Alda running around in the rain, lol.Hawkeye Dominic~ I like the repeated "aw," but Dominic is a bit too popular for my tastes.Hawkeye Redmond~ And the Redhawk thing is awesome...or would be, if I didn't think of Tatum O'Neal's half-brother. (This is the problem of being frighteningly well-informed on pop culture; it restricts name usage, hehe.) Much as I love Tatum--good Lord, she's a cool woman--Redmond didn't get the best portrayal in her autobiography. :/Hawkeye Ridge~ Ridge isn't exactly the sound I'm looking for, I don't think. It's...a tad on the soap opera side, is the problem. And I'm much more for the nighttime dramedy than for the daytime soaps. ;)Hawkeye Scirocco~ Ooooh. It's blowing like a breeze, I tell you. ;) I like this. It wouldn't pass the real-life use test (namely, is there a family name of some sort in there?), but I like it. And a family name could always be snuck onto the end.

Hawkeye Benedict
Hawkeye Edward / Edmund
Hawkeye Gregory
Hawkeye Jared
Hawkeye Luke
Hawkeye Malcolm
Hawkeye Patrick
Hawkeye Peter
Hawkeye Philip
Hawkeye Quinn
Hawkeye Raphaël
Hawkeye Reynold
Hawkeye Sebastian
Hawkeye Vaughn (eh? *nudge* eh? got the "aw" thing)

Well, most no one ever borrows my combos. ;) Strange thing--there's not much call for children by name of Thursday Honorah, apparently. You may have Hawkeye Scirocco (I will merely look at it and sigh happily) and may borrow Matthias Crow (which sits nicely between Crow Jerome and Alphonse Matthias in the lineup in my head) when you wish. And on the off-chance that you somehow have another boy and feel the need to call him Matthias Crow and I have a boy called Matthias Crow...well, they'll have Illinois, Missouri, Arkansas, Louisiana, and a lot of Texas between them. It'd be safe. ;D (On the whole, I have few reservations on people stealing my names--mostly because no one ever wants to, lol. It's when I can feel that the name might become popular anyway that I get really possessive--thus why I don't like seeing Evening-Hazel-Rosemary-Ruby-etc. mentioned by anyone but me. ;)Now, to think on these combos.Hawkeye Beauregard~ Beauregard is very Southern, haha. Dunno how well it'd fit in here in the Great White North, but Hawkeye Beauregard definitely has class. I approve.Hawkeye Benedict~ It's not a long shot, I'll say that much (Hawkeye Benedict, Solveig Scholastica, b/g twins :D). I like it a great deal.Hawkeye Edward / Edmund~ Edgar is my favourite of the Ed- names, but Hawkeye Edgar doesn't work so hot for me. These two sound nicer, but I think you might be quite right in not choosing a vowel to start off the middle name.Hawkeye Gregory~ Gregor is my preferred form of this name, after poor Mr. Samsa of The Metamorphosis. But Hawkeye Gregor's stunted. Gregory is, of course, nice, but it's nice for other people, I think. :D
