Gemma is a complete name.. Jemma to me is an informal name, like a nickname for Jemima.
By the way, Gemma is not only a name for a precious stone in Italian; it's also the Latin term for a type of bud on a plant. I like it better with this meaning. It's one of my favorite names, and spelling it with a J just wrecks it for me.

Latin, I guess. Plural is gemmae. That's Latin, right? I left my brain at the lab today.
