[Opinions] Tabitha for a boy?
I was visiting with the cats that were up for adoption at the pet store today, and I noticed that the name of one of the cats was Tabitha. I thought that they might have made a mistake because the sign said that Tabitha was male. Strangely enough, I heard an employee talking to someone who was interesting in adopting Tabitha, and she confirmed that Tabitha was in fact male. I was a bit shocked that whoever named him didn't realize that Tabitha is a feminine name. I guess with all the human girls named Madison, Emerson, Ryan, etc. nowadays, it's a bit surprising. Someone has finally used a girly name for a boy (cat). At least he has no idea that he has a feminine name.

Probably, whoever named him Tabitha had thought that he was a girl. They probably realized that he was a boy after a while, but I'm guessing that the name stuck. :) Horrible boys name!

I don't see anything wrong with it.I think it's quite cute. I want to call our next cat Boris, regardless of it's sex. I see pets as an excellent opportunity to use any name you want. I think it would be rather amusing to see a big, butch tom called Annabelle or a little dainty female called Trevor, you know, an owner calls for 'Annabelle' and, instead of the little, white fluffball that you expect, a huge, obviously masculine, tabby comes in. It's a cat, it's not like he's going to get teased by the other moggies for being called Tabitha.I used to call our male cat (Smudge) Smegalina and it didn't bother him. *formulates plans to call her future cats Godzilla (f) and Princess (m)*

Never, ever, EVER name a male, 21st century human child Tabitha.

Don't worry. I'm not planning on using the name for either gender. Tabitha is a cat (and not mine).

It's a cat. What does it matter?I don't like the name for a cat (it seems too easy), whatever its sex, but I don't see what's so apalling about it. But then, the kind of names I choose for pets are always kind of silly, so Tabby-the-Tom kind of appeals to me.Array

...And then he said, "You're independent, aren't you?"
"Yes," said Laura.A revolution without dancing is a revolution not worth having.

Agree.I wish I hadn't been so stubborn with giving my female cat a male name....Magellan is much cooler than Maggie. :-)And Tabby-the-Tom is so cute!

Nope, I can't see Tabitha being suitable for a male at all. It's so feminine.

Wonderful! My beta fish is named Felicia. She is sexed a male. And obviously I've gendered her with a female name. Although, how does anyone know what gender the male-sexed cat is anyway? It's great, I love it.

Hell, why not? I find it quite annoying that people will happily say that James or Dylan or Kieran for a girl is lovely but any girls name or unisex name for a boy is horrible! I think its pretty stupid.
I dont like Tabitha for male or female but there are a few girls names that i like for boys!~~* BEX *~~

When I first saw the title of this post I thought, wow... someone wants to name their son Tabitha. I'm glad it was just a cat :)
