Well, in theory I think Jay is fine as a name on its own.
However, I once knew a boy who was always referred to as (and I'll just use the phonetic pronunciation) "jaytee."
I went for years assuming it was J.T.
Finally I found out it actually was Jay T. (Don't know what the T. stood for.)
I found the experience quite disorienting. Unnerving. Whatever.
Now maybe that's just because I'm overly concerned with spelling, names, etc. Probably wouldn't bother most people!
