[Opinions] Art
What do you think of Art? I'm thinking of it not as a nickname for Arthur but as in that made by an artist. I can't really see it on a girl, but I think it could be sweet for a boy. (I'd never really use it; it's a favorite of my friend's and I'm just curious about what people think.)Any combos? Should it be relegated to the middle name position? Thanks. :)-- Sarah

Art is an old Irish name used as a cognate for Arthur.I love it and would consider using it,probably on it's own.My dh's great-grandfather was called Art.I don't think of Art as in made by the artist when I hear it;rather it has Celtic/Arthurian associations for me.

I didn't know that Art-by-itself was an old Irish name -- that's neat! :)-- Sarah

ArtMy grandfather was Arthur and was often called Art or Artie. Now that I'm older I like Arthur better, but not Art so much.

I love it as a nickname- for whatever it can be used. Arthur nn Art is fine. But I really love Artemis nn Art, on a boy. (Artemis has been permanently boyinised for me because of Artemis Fowl. And I love it, too. Think of it as the opposite of those people who use masculine names for girls- it's Josie and Artemis for boys, all the way.) And if you don't like that, Artemisios or something...But it just takes away from the wonderfulness of Art when it's by itself. :(ETA: Ooh, just discovered Artaxerxes. That's so cool.

LOVE it as a nickname for Arthur. Then it's extremely jazzy--you've got Art Tatum, Artie Shaw, etc, etc--as well as being really sharp sounding. Also, Artemus-nn-Art has always rather appealed to me.Art on its own...well, I could get used to it. I don't like it nearly as much, but it still has a really nice off-kilter charm, and I think it'd work fine. It just loses (to me) a bit of the history that makes Arthur-nn-Art so interesting to me. And by history, I'm definitely looking at popular American music of the twentieth century, rather than Arthurian myth, lol.Array

"Yes," said Laura.A revolution without dancing is a revolution not worth having.
