Here's what I found online at RootsWeb and from a geneology buddy of mine:Pushaw is the Americanization of the French surname, Pochard. After emigrating to the U.S., it appears as if a French family had their name altered at Ellis Island, which was a common occurance. Many of the immigration officers changed surnames either because they couldn't spell the name in the original language or the family wanted to "sound" more American.Hope that helps!
