[Facts] Evan
Hello,
I was wondering if anyone knew how the name John became Evan in Welsh. Evan is my brother's name and he never really understood how the Evan and John were related, and I can't seem to find a website that can tell me. I know that Biblical names would often be re-written when a new culture adopted the Bible, but a this doesn't seem as obvious as, say, Peter to the Spanish Pedro.

It is similar to both Ivan and Giovanni
"You may give them your love but not your thoughts. For they have their own thoughts.
You may house their bodies but not their souls,
For their souls dwell in the house of tomorrow, which you cannot visit, not even in your dreams."
(On Children by Kahlil Gibran)

this is my own understanding of the transition. hopefully someone else will come by with a more scholarly answer, but until they do...
John is Youkhanan in my language. Youkhanan -> Youhanan -> Youhan or Johann (J pron as Y) -> Iovan (like Giovanni) or Jovan -> Evan.
also...Johann -> Jan (as Y) -> John.
that is their relation to each other. :)
