[Opinions] Re: hebrew names for girls
in reply to a message by Menke
Hullo, it's me! lolIn fact, the Hebrew for Elizabeth is Elisheva, and the Hebrew for Judith is Yehudit. :)You can go here to find others: http://www.behindthename.com/nmc/jew.html and http://www.behindthename.com/nmc/bibl.html (if you’re Jewish, be careful not to chose a name with Christian or pagan connotations: Shimon is good, Simeon isn’t, and isn’t Hebrew anyway)
Here, you'll find original Hebrew names: http://www.hebrewletters.com/results.cfm?catid=198About the pronounciation:
“i” = y, not “eye” or a long “ee”
“Ch“ = “kh“ (like hiJo, aCHtung…)
“E” = like in „stEAk“, never „fAde“ or „dAY“ (no „ee“ sound after it), and „e“ is never „uh”, “ee”…
“eth”, “ith” are always prononced "et", "it", not like in "the" or "thin".
A few of my favs:
