[Surname] Lewis
Never been here before, but could anyone tell me where the last name Lewis originated from (because I know it's not Tennessee, USA)?
Thanks!

I think that the name generally originates in the Latin Ludovicus, which became Louis. But I there is another form of the name derived from Levis, which in turn is derived from the Hebrew Levi.
Mainly Welsh in origin. Have a look at this page -

Although Lewis is another spelling of Louis some believe it was adopted by the Welsh as an English language equivalent of Llewelyn.
