[Opinions] Apollinaire, Savio & Vesuvius
Apollinaire, Savio & Vesuvius have been on my mind for the past week or so. they have a sort of exotic, old world air to them.what do you think of them? over the top or usable? and what kind of middle names do you think would go best with them?thx!

thanks everyoneI had to go out of town so I couldn't respond. I don't know if anyone will see this as it's so far down on the page now.Appolinaire is the name of a zoologist I saw on tv. I thought it was regal and very cool.Savio I found in the database. I tend to like names with V's and that's what made me think of Vesuvuius. I think has great sounds. I'm not sure that I would use it for one of my kids, maybe a character, but I think it's interesting.also I am aware that Vesuvius was the volcano that destroyed the ancient cities of Pompeii and Herculaneum. but it's not like Vesuvius was an evil force, it was a natural one. it was just doing what volcanoes do - blow up. I find volcanoes fascinating. I had a professor that told me one of the ancient meanings of the word sublime was something so beautiful that it was frightening, or something so frightening that it was beautiful. I think volcanoes are sublime. p.s I'm still working on combos for these three. I agree that they need something more subdued to work.

I like Savio and Apollinaire, but only Savio's usable of the three as a first name for an English boy imo. Apollinaire, I think, is just too out there for an English speaker; if you use it, I think it'd work better as a middle name, with something more bland and common as a first name.Vesuvius is the name of the volcano that erupted and killed everyone in Pompeii and Herculaneum in 79 CE--at least 1,500 people certainly died, and the total death toll could've been as high as 15,000 or 25,000. Why on earth would you want to name your kid after something that caused such a tragedy?

I love Apollinaire because it makes me think of the author/poet Guillaume Apollinaire - the author of one of my favourite books, 'Le Sorcier Pourrisant'. I'd use it in a heartbeat, but then again I've always loved eccentric names.Savio is nice, and simple enough to be perfectly usable, even though it's somewhat exotic.Vesuvius just makes me think of the volcano. It would be a lovely name for a character in a book, but I'm not sure whether it would work on a real person. It's not bad, but I'm kind of on the fence about whether it's usable.I'd pair any of these names with a more or less traditional middle name to balance out their exoticness.

Maybe I am the only one to notice this, but Apollinaire reminds me of millionaire, Savio reminds me of Savvy, and Vesuvius only reminds me of a volcano and its horrible destruction.

If I was a falconer and had a bird to name, I would call it Apollinaire. It's always seemed like the perfect name for a hawk or a falcon--so elegant but dangerous at the same time. I haven't the faintest idea why I associate it with birds of prey, but I do--and I really like it. I also love Apollonia for a girl; I admire the saint, whose feast day is one of my sisters' birthdays, and if I ever used it, it'd be for both sister and saint. ;) Savio, I have never seen before. It immediately reminds me of Sanrio, the company behind Hello Kitty--not necessarily a bad thing, just my first association. It has a nice meaning and a pretty good sound (reminds me of Silvio, which I've found handsome for ages). Not one I'd choose, but certainly not bad.Vesuvius is a name for destruction and anger in my mind--it was the volcano that levelled Pompeii. I don't like it for a real person.Array

I like Apollinaire. I do think they are not usable as first names. Maybe as middle names? Savio could work as a first name maybe.-------------------------------------------------
