[Opinions] Ioan

How cool! I've liked him for years, since "Wilde" and "The Forsyte Saga"--long before Fantastic Four. :) But it took me forever to be able to pronounce his name, lol. I like it quite a bit, but it would get butchered in the U.S., that's for sure. I also love the name Ewan--which has a similar sound--largely because of another attractive actor from the U.K. :b.

I love the name and don't find it difficult to spell or pronounce at all. Welsh names are apparently notoriously difficult to pronounce but I don't see that myself. Not everyone needs to have a name that's spelled phonetically, surely? It's a great name and it's so cool you're working with him! Ioan Gruffudd's one of my favourite actors. ;)
Oh I am so glad to hear that you think "not everyone needs to have a name that's spelled phonetically". Personally I much prefer names that are pure to their language, rather than anglecized, but unfortunately I seem to be in a minority around here =)
Happy to hear you like the name too!

Oh, you are not in the minority in my book...I love original spellings, especially when it comes to welsh, scottish, and irish names.
I don't like it,but I like Fantastic Four! ;)

Love the spelling, great name.
If you PM me, I'll give you more details...
I didn't even know he was in the Titanic. lol. I think you'll like him in this movie though, his character is a little more fun than he was in the last FF.

Yes, that's a common issue here, but when he's a better known actor, nobody will get it wrong and it will be a household name - as it is in Whales. I always find myself reminding people on this board that it's an International Board.

For some unkown reason I had decided (long time ago) that it was said ee-own I do this all the time! lol
Its a nice name, I dont think I would use it, but I love the look of it!

Funny. I had decided the exact same thing. When I met him yesterday, (the first day of shooting) I practically told him that he was pronouncing his own name wrong. LOL. anyhhow, I refrained because he speaks fluent Welsh, and well, I'm sure he knows his own name. Also, his accent is very difficult to copy, so the pronounciation is difficult to spell out.
Ha ha ha! thats great!

I guess I like Ioan better pronounced as ee-yo-in, but Yo-in is okay too.
Good God, I'm jealous of you. Ioan Gruffudd has been one of my favourite actors ever since I got into the Horatio Hornblower series (both books and mini-series on A&E)!
I like his name a lot, but I'd never use it myself. I'd love to meet a little Ioan, though. :D

Ha! Funny how the day to day life of one, can be so unusual to another.
Well you'll be pleased to know that he's delightful and down to earth. I'll try and get some pics for you of some behind the scenes, but won't be working til next week.
Glad you like the name!

Hehe--you're talking to a Midwestern college girl from semi-blue-collar roots. Meeting movie stars isn't an average occupation around here! ;D
I'd love to see some pictures if you can procure them. :) I didn't get a chance to see the first film, but I'm always up for shots of wonderful young men, lol.

Well honestly the first film wasn't that good, but it was a heck of a lot of fun to make! I worked on the second unit (aka stunt unit) it was an absolute blast, but I didn't see much of Ioan. I'll get some pics. Just may take me a little while.
