Names like this "may" be geographic (place name) in origin. The -em ending is found in a few towns in Germany and Belgium (e.g., Berchem), but the likely geographic source of these names in the US would be as a spelling variant of English place names.Finchem may be from Fincham, a town in Norfolk whose name means "a homestead frequented by finches".Tellem (if you've actually seen that name), I can't find as a comparable example, so there well may be an etymological source other than geographic. Anyone?

The name is derived from Fincham. One of the Fincham migrated from CULPEPER co., Va to Iowa and the name became Finchem rather
than Fincham.Very public example is Tim Finchem, President of US Golf Association. If you use search engine you will fin Tim
mentioned very frequently. Also check my World Connect to find this branch of Finchem.Any Finchem who is not lisred is invited to e-mail data to me for inclusion.
