Well, I think the others are right with it being a name you call her, but not derived from Charlotte.I have something similar, I want to name my first daughter Catriona Ena Morgaine and call her Minnchen (from Minna). That will me my "personal" nn for her, it might not be derived from her real name, but it has a meaning to me and so I don't see why not.I know so many people calling their children "pumkin", "tiger", ...

I agree with what mirfak said-- call a Charlotte LOtus if you want, but don't try to claim that Lotus can in any way come from Charlotte. I'd just use Lotus. I think it's fine on it's own (in the tradition of flower names) and if you wanted a nickname you could always use Lottie.

Interesting but ultimately, Lotus reminds me of locust!

I think its a bit contrived. Lotus is a beutiful name. If you like it, just use it. :-)

You could use it...but it doesn't sound like it comes from Charlotte. It sounds like just a nn you though of for her. Like my friend calls her son (Alex) Turtle.

Oh please no.I'm a Charlotte and crings at the thought of being called that as a nn. It's Charlie, or even Lotte, if any nn's at all. Lotus aren't even related to Charlotte, so please use a nn related to it instead.

I agree with Array-- it sounds very contrived. Anyways, if you planned on using Lotus more, why not just use Lotus as the full name?"What is a cynic? A man who knows the price of everything and the value of nothing." --Oscar Wilde

way too far off +I don't mean you couldn't call a Charlotte "Lotus" if you wanted and she liked it. You just couldn't get away with claiming Lotus is "from" Charlotte somehow. Too artificial.- mirfak

I just can't see Lotus and a nn for Charlotte. At all. That being said. I think Lotus can stand on it's own as a name.
