Message: "Madeline" - Behind the Name

I used to like this name alot. Then, about four months ago, a friend of mine presented an incredibly smurffy musical that he had writen to the public. "Hot Cocoa" was the name of it. I liked the story, of a woman trying to successfully run a speak-easy during Prohibition. But the songs were terrible and there was way to much romance for anyone in that auditorium to take. The worst song was called "Madeline". Not only was is overly sappy, but the chorus just consisted of the name being sung in many irritating tunes. Now, I can't stand that name no matter what form of spelling it has.

LOL .... There are a few names ruined for me because of connotations, too. Kay on a boy (as in the Arthurian knight) was ruined because Kay was an ex-boyfriend's surname, and in fact people often called him Kay (addressing people by their surnames was fashionable at high school). Also Tiffany, because although it's never been popular here (I've never met or even heard of a Tiffany where I live) and therefore comes with no baggage, I know from the folk on BtN that it doesn't stereotype well in the States, and that puts me off it.

I do love Madeline, but Madoline is my favourite spelling.

That sounds like a very funny musical! :)

I think Madeline is a very nice name, regardless of the song. It's nice spelled Madeleine, too, but I'm rather indifferent between the two.

Was it pron. Madalyn or Mada-LINE? Because I HATE the LINE pronunciation of it.
I prefer it spelled Madeleine though.
