I prefer Spencer, and no. I never even heard of this until college. My RA freshman year had this name, and he was just a ball of energy all the time. I havent liked the fact people here like it for a girl, but if you are thinking of it for a boy, go for it!~~Kris~~

I don't think Spenser is at all out-dated. Infact I think it needs a little reviving! I love Spencer and prefer this spelling but either is nice, strong, masculine and very cute! :)

Spencer is a really nice name, i like it. it doesn't remind me of the 80's / 90's at all.
but i don't like the spenser 's' variation - nmsaa.

I have only known one Spencer and he was my fourth grade teacher's son, he would be about six now. So I don't think of the 80's/90's at all. Very cute name.

Well, I prefer the SpenSer spelling like Edmund Spenser, the poet. Glad to know many of you like it.
