[Facts] Alaine
I found this name on couple of other less reliable sites. They claimed that Alaine meant dear child to the French and beautiful in Ireland. It also mentioned that it was an obscure surname. DO you find any merit in these claims? i am not sure if this will help, The Oxford Names Companion does not show this name the closest you get is ALAIN which is the french form of ALAN which is English and Scottish of Celtic origin and uncertain derivation( possibly a diminutive of a word meaning "rock" Galec = "Ail"). You will be glad to know there is no connection to ELAINE which in english and was originally a version of HELEN
