The oo sound in Nanook is the same as the oo sound in book or hook.
I do not think it is a good first name for a little girl, at all. If you are Eskimo, it might be different, but I am assuming you are not.
I do like the name Nanook--the next dog we get, that is the name I have reserved for it. (no joke--I have been considering it for 3 years!) I want a big white dog that looks like a polar bear.
