[Opinions] Rowan vs. Rowena
Im debating about the names Rowena & Rowan. I love both of them but im not sure which I like better! If I use Rowena for a girl then I can't use Rowan or Ronan for a boy! I adore Rowan but i've seen a couple of Rowan's in the birth announcements lately and it is a name that I could definately see becoming popular here in Australia. So which is better? Rowan or Rowena?~*~*~ BeX ~*~*~

I prefer Rowan for a couple reasons.
1. because I like the nature association. (And I don't buy that Rowan is strictly a boy's name. I think nature names are fair use.)
2. I do not like that "een" sound in Rowena.

I like Rowan, for a boy.But I despise Rowena. Ro-Wee-Na. I just don't like the sound.

Hmm, for myself, I would be more inclined to use Rowan on a boy rather than Rowena on a girl. However, I can see you with a daughter named Rowena, and can't really see you with a son named Rowan or Ronan.I do believe that Rowan is rising in popularity, and that would be something to watch out for. Meanwhile, Rowena is lesser known and is an underappreciated classic. So, my choice for you is: Rowena : )

Rowan's mannish, to me - I wouldn't use it on a girl at all. Rowena is very elegant. I slightly prefer it spelled Rowina.

Both are lovely, but I much prefer Rowena. Rowan is very cute and wonderfully natural - I personally slightly prefer it on a boy, though - but it doesn't have the grace and elegance of Rowena. Rowena is just incredibly beautiful and strong. It used to be my favourite girl name ever.

I like Rowan... it's not too common, but she still won't have problems in the future with people spelling/saying her name right- that could be a problem with Rowena. That said, they are both very lovely names!

I prefer Rowena by far. Rowan strikes me as trendy; Rowena, as an unappreciated classic. Array

Hi , i am the Uk and Rowan is REALLY popular here. Rowena is definately less popular, but i could see it rising on the back of Rowan - like you there will be many people who like the name Rowan but find it too popular, ot have a baby girl and so go with Rowena.
My favourite name when i was a kid was Rowena around about when i was 8 - i stil have a soft spot for it now!Love Clara

Rowena. It is much less common than Rowan and Rowan is being increasingly used in Australia as both a boys name and a girl's name. Rowena is uncommon, and charming. I like it a lot.

I like Rowena, mostly because people don't use it. It is still a very pretty uncommon name. I do like Rowan as well, but I believe it could become popular like you mentioned.
