Help[Opinions] Nowell/ Noll
In the tv show Felicity there was a character named NO-uhl. like Joel with an "n". The closest name I can find to this is Nowell or Noll. DO you know of other names with a similar sound? What do you think of this name?
ETA: BtN gives the prn. of Noel as no-EL, which is not the prn. I prefer.

Where I live, Christmas-born children are sometimes called Noel, if male, or Noella, and Noelline, if female.

I love Noel and Nowell both. Noel, I pronunce NOLE, and Nowell, I pronunce NO-wull. :)

I was about to post the same thing. But I've heard Noel pronounced NOLE several times, incl. Noel Coward, IIRC. I greatly dislike Noel and Noelle on girls for some odd reason but I very much like Noel (NOLE) for boys. BTW, the character on "Felicity" once reversed his name and referred to himself as Leon for a little while. :b

My mother's maiden name was Nowell, pronounced like NO-uhl. Not really like Joel, because Nowell has two syllables. I don't really like it as a first name, since I can only think of it as a surname, though I do like Noel. My sister's middle name is Noel (though it should probably be Noelle), but I like it either way.

I'm pretty sure it was Noel.
And I like it, probably just because it's so Christmas-y. I also like the feminine Noelle.
