[Opinions] Mercer
i met a 13 year old boy named Mercer today. I think it's unique and has a cool sound to it, but it kind of seems more of a brand of car. wdyt?

First though- those Mercer Mayer children's books. Love those! It's definitely interesting. I think I like it though I wouldn't use it.
ditto that.
I immediately think of Mercer Mayer of the Little Monster and Little Critter books: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mercer_Mayer
I don't find it at all attractive, but it doesn't bother me as much as other surnames, since there's at least one well-known precedent. :)

Reminds me too much of mercenary.
It's also the name of a character on Veronica Mars who... well, let's just say he's not such a great guy.
But that's just me. I suppose it does have a certain level of coolness, and it could work on the right person.

There's an island around here called Mercer Island, so that's immediately what I think of. To me, it's kind of like naming your kid Bainbridge or Orcas or Vashon (other islands around here). It's got an okay sound, but it's not something I would ever use.

It's a last name to me.
Loving Theodore Elliott and Chava Louise!
I think it's gorgeous. Strong and soft. It would probably be too surname-y for me to use (unless I happened to marry a man with Mercer as a last name in their family tree), but it would be wonderful on someone else's child.
