[Opinions] Pronounciation: Alister/Alistair and Maya
Do you pronounce Alister and Alistair the same or differently? I pronounce each name differently; Alister is "AH-lih-stuh" and Alistair is "ah-lih-STAIR". Is this the correct pronounciation, or am I saying to too...urm...phonetically?Regarding Maya; I know a girl at college called Maya, and while she pronounces it "MY-ah", I say "MAY-ah". She's Indian (although born and raised in Britain, so it's not an accent thing or anything). How do you say the name?

"You've become quite a stud."
"And...you're the most stylin' girl in the world."

I pronounce Alister, Alistair, Alasdair, Alastair ... all the same: AL-lih-ster. I've heard it pronounced a-lih-STAIR by English friends, but they get corrected a lot!Maya - I say MY-ah._____________________________________________________________________Elinor

I pronounce Alister and Alistair (and also Alastair and Alasdair) all as AL-uh-stuh. Maya I pronounce as MAY-ah but that's for more personal reasons, I like the MAY-ah, MIE-ah and MEE-ah pronunciations so I use MAY-ah = Maya, MIE-ah = Maia and MEE-ah = Mia so I can use all three. Makes sense in my head :)

I pronounce Alister and Alistair almost identically. I think if I met an Alistair I might prn the end like "stair" the first couple times I said it but it wouldn't take long for me to slur it into "stir."I never know how to pronounce Maya. My first thought is MY-uh because I've met a couple Mayas and that's how they pronounced it, but I think MAY-uh makes sense too.

I would prn. Alister: AL-ih-stur. Alistair: AL-ih-STARE. Maya: MY-a. I've never heard it prn. MAY-a and I think of the Mayan Indians also.

I pronunce Alister and Alistair the same way you do--and with Alastor, I always say ah-LASS-ter, lol.Maya, I pronunce MY-ah because I think of the Mayan people when I see it. MAY-ah makes sense, too, though it'd get a lot of mispronunciations.Array

I say Alister like "AH-lih-ster" and Alistair like "AH-lih-stair", but I don't know if that's correct.I say Maya like "MY-ah". I've known a Maya, a Maia, and a Mya, and it's always been "MY-ah".

Personally ....Alister isnt spelt right in my opinion, and Alistair is said al-is-stah.My cousin has a daughter named Maya and She says it May-ah. My-ah is Mya and Mee-ah is Mia.
Again, all in my opinion. Youre welcome to disagree,
