I'd go with Carly and keep that spelling.
Loving Theodore Elliott and Chava Louise!
I much prefer Brenna. One of my former teachers has a little daughter (I think she's five now) named this and she's adorable. The only Carly I ever knew was not a very nice person, so I've got a bad association with it. Plus, the sound of it just isn't pleasant to my ears. So Brenna definitely gets my vote.

Brenna
Brenna - I think it's lovely, classy, uncommon but still fits in well.
Carly - It's probably mostly because of personal associations of mine, but I very much think of this as a low-class redneck name. I like Carla more than Carly, but really any and all names related to Carl/Karl aren't very attractive to me.

I prefer Brenna only because Carly has been done and overdone since the 80s. I thought Carly/Carli/Carleigh/Carley used to be cute until I met so many people around my age with this name.
I class Carly and Brenna as the same type of name, though. The Brennas born today are the Carlys of the 80s. Both names try to seem unusual and strike up images of blonde suburban cheerleaders in my mind.

Brenna (also, I like Brynn).

I prefer Brenna. Carly is ok, but it doesn't interest me as much as Brenna. As for spellings, I prefer Carly to Carley. Most people will assume that it's Carly and not Carley anyways.
