[Opinions] Patricia
What are your impressions of a girl named Patricia? Is it dated? Ugly? Do you like it better as a fn or a mn? What combos can you think of?Thanks.BTW, if I had a daughter named Patricia, she would likely be called Patricia all the time. I'm also more likely to use it as a mn.

This is my mother's name. Her full name is Patricia Jane. My mom also goes by the full name or the shortened Pat. When she was young, she ent by Patty or Patsy. Funny, my dh and I were just discussing Patricia last week. We both like it but feel it's somewhat dated. I admit to heartily disliking the nns Pat, Patty and Patsy although Tricia and Trish are cute. I could see myself using Patricia as a mn. I really like its meaning.

I don't dislike it, though I'm swayed by a certain number of people named Patricia that I don't care for. It does seem a bit dated, but it would make an amazing middle name with the right fn, and vice versa. I would say it has a lot of potential.

Patricia still has a really dated feel for me. I think I would prefer Patrice, even though it is technically a male name. Patricia has the problem of inevitably being called Pat at some point, which is just boring (Unless she goes by Patsy). Even people who insist on being called Michael, James, or Lawrence, invariably end up being Mike, Jim, and Larry to some people. I don't think Patricia is awful, but I stack it onto the pile with Linda, Diane, Debbie, Denise and Sue - basically all names of people who are now in their late forties to fifties.

It's my sister's mn, so I may be biased. But I think "patrician / aristocrat" when I hear Patricia. I love it. And the nn Patsy is so cute. I know you wouldn't use it, but I just thought I'd throw that in there anyway. Patricia is an underappreciated name; one of those hidden treasures waiting to be rediscovered. You would be ahead of the curve. Names that are being rediscovered now are what I consider turn-of-the-20th-century names like floral names. I predict the next wave of nostalgic names will be from the WWII era, of which Patricia fits right in (in my mind anyway.) I'd love to meet a little Patricia one day. The world needs more of them.

Actually, if Patricia were to have a nn in my family, it would definitely be Patsy. It's a "family" nn. :-)"No one can make you feel inferior without your consent."

Patricia is okay. It is a bit dated, but I don't think it is ugly. I just also don't think it is anything special. I am glad to know that if you used it, she would be called Patricia, though, because I don't like Pat at all!~ EM
