My first thought was Cashmere. You could have worse associations, but it isn't something I'd use (I agree that aside from that, it looks like a nice name!). I'm not familiar with the place itself, so I don't have any objections because of that.
What made you interested in it as a name? Was it the place itself, or the sound/look of the name?

Partly the region, which a very beautiful but war-torn place. Also a song called Kashmir. I agree that it looks very nice. I also like the way that related names (such as Kasimir) look.
