[Facts] the name Amie
IF you look into french books and different things you'll see that the name Amie is indeed a french word for female friend, when I looked at this site and saw that it referred me back to the name Amy it upset me becuase I jsut recently ended my second year of french at school and indeed the name Amie is french for female friend, I'd like it if maybe you researched it more to possibly fix this on your site or atleast add it for other people to know of thank you

Don't be upset, Amie
While both the modern-day French word which literally means "female friend" and the American variation on the spelling of "Amy" may look alike, I don't think they are pronounced quite the same way.
And, of course, this website does point to the common root of both "Amie" and "Amy" -- which is the Old French word of "aimée", meaning "beloved". One's "beloved", BTW, can also be one's "friend" -- provided she's a very *good* friend.
However, if you e-mail our Glorious Leader, Mike C., at mike-AT-behindthename.com, and very nicely point out to him the literal meaning of the French word "amie", he may take it into consideration for his next website update.
