Help[Opinions] Anthony or Antonio
My wife and I are not in agreement of our son name. I would prefer Anthony Joseph and she wants Antonio Joseph. We both are from italian heritage and my feeling is that Antonio now has become a popular name with everyone but italians, such as the blacks and spanish. Lots of sports players out there with the first name of Antonio, and none of them are Italian. I would like to stay true to our heritage, but we don't live in Italy, antonio would be a name if we lived there.. any thoughts?

I totally agree with Italian Princess. Anthony is a tired, overused name (it's origin by the way is Latin, not Italian).
Your original message sounds as though you think that the choice of you son's name is yours alone. I think that you should listen to your wife's reasons for wanting the name Antonio (her dad is Antonino, the baby's middle name is your first name), and accept her choice. Think about all she is going through to carry a healthy baby. Is Antonio really so different that you can't compromise?

Antonio is true to the Italian heritage, while not being obnoxious. Anthony is too plain and does not sound memorable. People will remember a sports star's name more if it were unique like Antonio.

I want Antonio because my father is Antonino and both my husband and father in law are Joseph. My husband is getting his own name as the middle name.
There is already an Anthony Joseph in his family and Antonio would be a nice change.

I like Anthony much better; I think it still honors your heritage. Anthony Joseph is a great combo!

I really do like Antonio; it's been one of my faves for boys for a few years or so. I also like Anthony, though slightly less.
IMO Anthony flows better with Joseph, and I think it's great to want to honor your heritage with Antonio. Since your wife seems to like Anthony so much, maybe you could opt for Anthony Guiseppe while still honoring your Italian heritage. Despite the rhyming "ee" endings, I still think it flows fairly well. WDYT?

I don't think that Antonio sounds good with the middle name "Joseph." because of the different backgrounds. (Then again my son is Calvin Salvador.) You should probably just agree with your wife- make Antonio Italian once more.

I see what you are saying, and in the sense of how you explained it, I agree. However, Anthony isnt Italian, so if you are set on using something to stay true to your heritage, Anthony may not be the choice either.
I would be refreshing to hear Antonio on an Italian. I do know there are quite a few non-Italian Antonio's out there, but I dont think that should stop you from using it. It doesnt make the name less Italian itself.
