[Opinions] WDYTO Julie?
Think of this as proof that V for Vendetta owns my brain completely (Julie London's most famous single, "Cry Me A River", is, of course, used prominently in the film). WDYT of the name Julie for a girl? FN or MN? I'm definitely preferring it on its own right now, but if I used it as a nickname, it'd be for Julanne (jool-AN). I'd never use Julia (too common) or Juliet(te) (too yuppie). Also, combo ideas would be very much appreciated. I've thought of these thus far (aside from Ruxandra, the other names are all family names):Cornelia Julie / Julie Cornelia
Julie Hanorah / Hanorah Julie
Edith Julie
Julie Ruxandra / Ruxandra Julie
Julie IngeborgAny other ideas? Since Julie is rather common, I would like to pair it with something less common.Thank you!Array

Julie seems a bit ho-hum compared to your usual tastes, actually. I'd like to see you with a Julanne nn Julie rather than a 'just Julie'. But if you do use 'just Julie', I think it definitely sounds better as a fn than a mn. I like Julie Hanorah the best. (Or Julanne Ruxandra)

I like Julie much better than Julia / Juliet / Julianne etc. I think it's fine as a first name by itself. From your list I like Julie Hanorah / Hanorah Julie.

I like Julie. I've met a lot of good Julies with varied personalities, too. However... Of course, I have to disaggree with you on Juliet :) Seriously, how does a name that I've never actually met one of, not high on the popularity charts, and that has the Romeo and Juliet Shakespeare connection come off as yuppie?Cornelia Julie / Julie Cornelia -Julie Cornelia Flows better, even though I prefer Cornelie. I like it.
Julie Hanorah / Hanorah Julie -Nice.
Edith Julie -Great!
Julie Ruxandra / Ruxandra Julie -Eh.
Julie Ingeborg -How do you pronounce it?Other suggestions:Julie Theodosia
Julie Flora
Julie Alina
Julie Theodora
Julie Angeline
Julie Fleur
Julie Tamar
Julie Perla
Julie Stefania
Julie Eugenia
Julie Jane
Julie Zita
Julie Evelyn

Julie Ingeborg -How do you pronounce it?Pretty much as it looks--ING-guh-borg. Which is a sound most Americans find quite ugly, I'm sure, but I think it's quite nice. :D It was one of my great-grandmother's names, and she was named for her great-grandmother (I think--can't remember how far back the first Ingeborg was), who was one of the first to come over to America from Norway. As for the rest, there's definitely something. Julie sounds so retro-fifties to me that it sounds awesome with most all of those! I especially like:Julie Theodosia
Julie Angeline
Julie Fleur
Julie Tamar
Julie Jane
Julie Zita
Julie Magdalena
Julie Starlight -- So snappy!
Julie Violetta
Julie Sonnet
Julie Zelda
Julie Maria
Julie Nightingale -- Also so snappy!
Julie Maude
Julie Willa
Julie Clarissa
Julie Sunshine -- Again!
Julie Magnolia
Julie Delight -- And again!
Julie Olive

LilianaMy brother made such a point yesterday about how unique the name was. Went on and on about it...until I pointed out it was 192 on the SS list. :-DYou're right, though.

I love the name Julie! I definitely prefer it all on its own. It's been one of my faves for a long time, and I have a great association with it. Julie is sweet for a little girl and grown up enough for a woman...it'll definitely age well. It's a great choice imo :-)

Julie's okay. I like it a lot better than Julia or Juliet(te). But it seems a little cutesy to me, like an early eighties cheerleader and homecoming queen attendant. Oh wait, I think that's because I recently heard the comedy-song "The Homecoming Queen's Got a Gun" by Julie Brown. lolFor a middle name, keep it short. Also be careful about colliding l's. Some ideas:Julie AngelJulie BridgetJulie CorinneJulie DiamondJulie ErinJulie FernJulie GretaJulie HazelJulie IrisJulie KimJulie MaureenJulie NadineJulie OpalJulie PatriceJulie RosannaJulie Sade (pronounced like Shar Day, the singer)Julie TamarJulie VeniceJulie WinterKnowing your style in names I have tried to find more unusual middle names. :)

Oh wait, I think that's because I recently heard the comedy-song "The Homecoming Queen's Got a Gun" by Julie Brown. lolI love Julie Brown! Have you heard "'Cause I'm a Blonde" or "Trapped in the Body of a White Girl"? If not, I can PM you links to download them (and "The Homecoming Queen's Got a Gun" if you need a copy), because I think they're hilarious. :DThank you for the suggestions! I like: Julie Angel -- It reminds me of Johnny Angel, lol, and I've liked Angel- names lately. I've just been unable to pick the one I like best. Angel will do for now, even if I suspect most people would categorize it with Delight.Julie Diamond -- I doubt I'd ever use Diamond, but I think it makes a really nice middle name.Julie Fern -- Feels very mid-century retro to me.Julie Hazel -- Great-grandma Hazel was the only great-grandparent I really knew (the rest were all dead by the time I was one), and I loved her.Julie IrisJulie Rosanna -- Reminds me of Rosanna Cash. :)Julie TamarJulie WinterArray

I remember that you mentionednot long ago that you were lking Tamar.I have indeed heard those songs, they are a scream. Ever heard the one "Earth Girls are Easy" where she has sex with a Martian? That's pretty funny too.On MTV when I was about ten, she had a show called "Just Say Julie" where she'd get into some bizarre situation (she had a huge crush on Jon Bon Jovi, for instance, and did not take it too well when he married somebody else,) and they'd play three songs during the show. It was so funny. She was dumber than a bag of hammers, but that was what made her so hilarious. My aunt hated the show and didn't like me to watch it, but she'd end up laughing at the "redheaded bimbo" just as loud as I did.

I remember that show, lol. Not to be confused with "Downtown Julie Brown" of course. :b

I remember her too!The black lady with the heavy British accent. Kind of funny looking. She had a show and at the end of it she'd say "Wooba-wooba-wooba, goodbye, god bless."

I like Julie. It's simple, but a good name. If she ever found her name to be too common, she could always go by Jules, which is what my aunt who is named Julie occasionally does. My favorite is Julie Hanorah. I prefer Julie as a first name just because I find it slightly odd when people use names that are typically nicknames as mn's. I'm entirely not sure why though. More ideas:
Edith Julanne
Cornelia Julanne or Julanne Cornelia

I'm glad you liked quite a few of them. I like the sound of Julie Claudette as well. It has a lot of spunk.

It's NMS. Of your list, I prefer Julie Ruxandra.

I think its okay, overall nny, but I really loathe all the full names, so it ruins it for me. It stands alone fine, as long as the mn is more "full", if that makes sense.

Firstly, love V for Vendetta, haha. =)I really like the name in both the fn and mn spot. I know only 1 Julie, and she's related, so I guess I'm biased. I think it's wonderful on it's own. I prefer it as its own anyway, instead of a nn of one of the mentioned names.Cornelia Julie / Julie Cornelia - Like them both actually. : )
Julie Hanorah - I prefer the combo this way.
Edith Julie - It seems very, "cute" to me, but I really actually like it.
Ruxandra Julie - I must say, with this name, Julie has to be the mn. Ruxandra is too unique and such to be stuck in the mn slot, imo.As for other combos, I'm pretty awful at them unless I'm feeling particularly inspired on any given day, and haha, today is not one of those days. =D
