[Facts] Meaning of Uncas?
Any idea what Uncas means? I've only found two possible meanings so far -- "Bold" (1) and "Fox" (2) -- but I have no way to know which, if either, is correct.Historically, Uncas (d. 1682) was the founder of the Mohegans (3), a Native American group based in Connecticut. Many places in the area (such as Uncasville) have inherited his name. 1- http://www.quinnipiac.edu/other/ABL/etext/historictowns/historictowns.html

I think it means Bounding Elk based on what I read in the Wikipedia.
Also, I doubt this to be helpful but in the medical dictionary there is Uncus a latin word. Possibly this could be a related name which derived from latin? I am unsure, however, According to the wikipedia which I see you have listed, they stated that he was known as Bounding Elk which in there language was Uncas. Hopefully I was of some help atleast!! I tried :)
