I've never seen Amyas before. I assume it's related to Amias, which is pronounced "AY-mee-us." Despite the obvious similarity to the female name Amy, I don't find Amias feminine at all. It has an old-fashioned air of grace and gentility.
Sir Amias Paulet (sp?) was a servant of Queen Elizabeth I. (That's the only reference I have for it.)
