Not good as anything but a nickname. She'll be in for way too many jokes about how "catty," she is, along with plenty more about the fabric.
sure it's sort of cute, and spunky! [m]
it's the name of a town, and a cat and i like both so go for it.

But...it's a fabric, too!
I don't understand the logic - no instruments, but towns, cats, and fabric are okay?
And you're a Christian, but naming your children after the murderer of a horror flick is okay?
Please explain these ideas to me.

I didn't know it was a fabric. I also never said Viola couldn't be used, it just reminds me of an instrument, or violet, and nothing more, personally I don't like it as a name, and cannot see it as one, but if a person does that's their buisness.
Just because I got the name from a horror flick doesn't mean the the child's named after the character itself. As I said I just happend to get the name from the movie, the child is not named for the character.
Are all children named Damien named after the Omen? Are all Regan's after the Exorcist? Probably not, even *if* that's where some people might have gotten the idea of the name, unless someone says they named then strictly for the characters, I wouldn't just assume they did, it's quite rude.
That's like assuming all children that were named from movie's or books were named for it's characters, it's not nessicarily true. They could just get the idea of the name from the movie/book like I did (again, I repeat for the last time since people apperantly don't understand. Yes, I like the name the MN Audrey for a boy, and I got the idea from Halloween, and no it is not named 'after' the killer.

It's a cool name for a character, I like the sound of it a lot, but I am not sure it works for a person.
Calico Jack the pirate comes to mind. I see it more as a nickname, not a fn.
Im very sorry but it just reminds me of a type of cat. You know the Calico colored cats.
Eh.
No. I'm all in favor of word names, and unusual names - to a point. As I've stated before: I have a word name. It's used more often as a word than a name, and that makes life difficult.
I think it's quite cute, but I'm not sure it could work on an adult woman. Some word names can - Lyric and Evening come to mind - but Calico just couldn't.

I've had a couple of cats with this name. I don't think it works for a human.
You mean like this:
(sorry, couldn't resist, I'd just answered the 'pets' topic in the Lounge.)
Too cat-ish, especially now I have one.

Meow?
Ditto :b
It's nice... for a cat.

Doesn't work as a name for me.
Calicos are just my favorite cats though. I'm a real sucker for a little calico lady-cat.

Isn't it fabric?
:o)
:o)
I note "girls name" is not on the list . . . :P
Sorry, I don't like it.

I prefer Pattern.
...No, seriously. It's the name of the maid in The Wolves of Willoughby Chase by the late, great Joan Aiken, and I always loved dear Pattern. Always thought her name was cool, too.
That said, Calico could work, but it's really doing it for me at the moment.
