Peter is not my type of name at all, but I think you could use it. People have come up with far more common slang terms for penis and I don't think penis is really something people associate with Peter, at least not around here. As for your sister and her ex, I think a decade has been more than enough time. Go for it, when the time comes.
As for August, I love it. Some might argue that it's a month and not a name, but of course that isn't so. It's both, and that's peachy. Both the shortened August as well as the month came from Augustus, which is of course a name. But you meant the word. To be honest, I don't think too many people would realize it's a word-other than the name of the month. I think August is safe to use too.
